 tefillin

Tefillin are black boxes containing special prayers, which are inscribed on parchment paper; these boxes are wrapped around one’s upper arm and forehead by a leather strap.  Jewish men start wearing Tefillin from the time of just before Bar-Mitzvah and on. Tefillin are usually worn while praying during the morning services and are not usually worn on Shabbat or the Jewish holidays, with few exceptions.

If you need to purchase a pair of Tefillin, Chabad Jewish Center of Palmetto Bay will be more than happy to guide you in this process.  If you cannot afford to purchase tefillin, we’ll take care of it for you.  This is a mitzvah that should not be missed!

We put Tefillin on our head which represents intellect and near our heart for emotion.  One of the daily challenges we are all faced with is to have balance in our lives.  After we put on Tefillin, our emotions and intellect become balanced, and we can start our day off the right way.

Because Tefillin are handmade, the inscriptions of Torah words on the parchment paper, as well as the boxes themselves, need to be “checked” by a professional scribe.  If you need a reference to have your Tefillin checked, and/or if you also need financial assistance with this, please don’t hesitate to contact Rabbi Gansburg at Chabad Jewish Center of Palmetto Bay.
